At Coast to Coast Learning Development & Training (CCLDT), we recently embarked on a heartwarming journey to the small, picturesque town of Radway, Alberta.
Our mission? To support a family-run post office, cherished by the community for generations, in taking a big step forward by adopting new technology to enhance their services. Set against Alberta’s beautiful countryside, Radway offered the perfect blend of history and progress for this meaningful project.
Our trainer began their journey in October, arriving in Redwater and making the short 25-minute drive to Radway. The Radway Post Office, where our project took place, is a cherished local landmark. Established in 1910, it still features hardwood floors from 1939, echoing with memories of the past. Training this fourth-generation family in new software was a way to honor their legacy while helping them enhance their customer service.
Radway, with a close-knit community of just 230 people, is a town steeped in history and
community pride. In fact, the land around the post office was originally purchased for just a dollar! Working with this family was a unique opportunity for Coast to Coast to blend tradition with progress.
As part of the experience, our trainer got a glimpse into Radway’s past. One of the treasures discovered was this hand-drawn map of Radway from 1940, showcasing the layout of the town in a bygone era. This map captures Radway’s roots and the strong sense of history that permeates the town.

The trainer also came across a historic red book, the “Canada Official Postal Guide” from 1955, which detailed postal regulations and rates from that time. And perhaps the most charming find was a teddy bear dressed in a postal uniform, given to the family’s great-grandmother in 1955 by Canada Post. This bear isn’t just a keepsake; it represents a long-standing bond between the family and the postal service.
Our journey in Radway captures Coast to Coast’s mission: connecting tradition with progress. Every training session is a bridge between the past and present, fostering a brighter, more interconnected future. Radway’s story, with its rich heritage and forward-looking spirit, perfectly reflects this philosophy.
In summary, being part of the Radway project allowed Coast to Coast to support a family’s legacy in a meaningful way. Watching them embrace new tools alongside their treasured artifacts was inspiring. This experience highlighted our commitment to helping communities across Canada connect tradition with modern progress.
